Musical Director

Adele Hudson

Hailing from west Yorkshire Adele has been surrounded by Brass Band tradition from an early age. At eight years she joined the Wakefield Schools Brass Band as a cornet player before progressing to the Wakefield Metropolitan Brass Band as a founder member.
Adele joined the NYBBGB at the age of fourteen under the direction of such luminaries as Roy Newsome, Arthur Butterworth, Eric Ball and Harry Mortimer.
At this point Adele decided to make the switch to trumpet and in September 1986 enrolled on the Graduate Diploma course at the Royal Northern College of Music. During the four years of this course she received tuition form Howard Snell, John Dickenson, John MacMurray and David Staff on natural trumpet.
On graduation in July 1990 following completion of both Graduate and Professional Performance diploma courses Adele went on to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Trent Park, Enfield which saw Adele join the team of Instrumental Teaching Staff at Northamptonshire music Service.
Upon taking up her new teaching position in September of 1991 Adele was appointed conductor of the County’s Junior Wind Band but soon moved up to the Training Band, becoming conductor of the prestigious Northamptonshire County Youth Concert Band from 1995-1999. With this band she received four consecutive gold Awards at successive Boosey & Hawkes National Concert Band Festivals and a further four consecutive ‘Outstanding Awards’ at the National Festival of Music for Youth.
In 1999 Adele returned to her roots by first taking up the position of conductor with the Northamptonshire County Youth Brass Band followed by her appointment as conductor of Towcester Studio Band. During her time with Towcester, Adele led them from being a Second Section band to a Championship one in the course of four years before leaving in 2006 to take up a new job.
In 2006 Adele was appointed Head of Brass & Percussion at Oundle School where she has spent the last eight years building the department from 35 brass players to currently 105. At present Adele directs eight School Ensembles.
2006 saw Adele conduct the first ever concert of Boobs & Brass.

From 2010-14 Adele became joint conductor of Youth Brass 2000. In 2014 Adele started preparing Rushden Town Band for contests & in 2015 was appointed as permanent Musical Director
